Shane English School China (SESC) offers you the opportunity to experience the rapidly evolving and multifaceted culture of China first hand, with the support and expertise of the largest British owned EFL organization in Asia.
SESC was established in Shanghai in 2000 and currently has 17 schools in China, teaching over 5000 students and employing hundreds of academic and non-academic staff. Teachers at SESC teach a full range of student ages, with a high percentage of young learners classes.
SESC Ningbo was established in the city center of Ningbo a little over 5 years ago. Since then our school has gained a reputation for excellence in teaching, creativity in the classroom and a consistently evolving curriculum. We now have three schools in the Ningbo area, with over 2000 students and 20 foreign staff members.
Among expats in Ningbo, our school has gained a reputation for our welcoming community, fair treatment of teachers, emphasis upon professional trust and development, and outstanding teacher support through training and ongoing consultation.
Hiring, training, and ongoing development are all conducted by western managers, minimizing misunderstandings and communication problems. We believe it's unfair for us to have high expectations of our teachers unless they can have high expectations of us, and so we offer our teachers service above and beyond the average school.
Ningbo is on the southeastern coast of China, in Zhejiang province. The city is 1 hour from Hangzhou and only 2 hours from Shanghai, thanks to high-speed rail and a bridge across Hangzhou Bay. Ningbo has a charming blend of old China (hutongs, markets and temples) and the new (skyscrapers, western restaurants, music clubs, cafes).
Zhejiang, throughout most of Chinese history, has been known for its contributions to China's art and literature. Ningbo is home to the oldest private library in China, a modern art museum, galleries and theaters, and a thriving intellectual community. The city is one of the cleanest in China, thanks to progressive environmental policies like emissions restrictions and city wide recycling.
Within hours of Ningbo are thousands of islands off the coast, among them Putuoshan, a prominent center of Buddhist scholarship in China. Ningbo’s combination of gardens, winding canals and small bridges, fascinating cultural heritage, and a modern outlook, all make the city an ideal welcoming gate to the rest of the country.
